Keeping it Real

There seems to be a trend these days, a trend to be "real". Now, don't get me wrong, I love genuine people. If you have to pretend to be someone to make people like you, you're doing it wrong. However, I have noticed that this trend has a negative aspect. If a person attempts to live life with a positive aspect, suddenly s/he is fake. Not genuine. Not REAL.

My life is not perfect. I could probably find things to complain about ALL day if I wanted to, but where would that get me? You can bet that at the end of that day I would be miserable. While I don't want people to lie, I think it's ok to be positive and upbeat without having your "realness" questioned.

Sometimes when I see someone constantly posting negative things on various aspects of social media and following it with, keeping it real, I want to shake them. Snap out of it! The more you wallow in your "real" life, the more you will miss out on all the wonderful things your life is bringing you. So yes, you will see lots of positive posts from me. That doesn't mean I think my life is perfect. It doesn't mean I think I'm better than you {trust me, I'm not} but it does mean that I am going to try to be happy and if that means choosing to spread a little sunshine in my life, well then so be it!

Searching for some 'Real' peeps

It really is such a fine line, isn't it? I always appreciate a post where someone shares real life struggles that they are having, butI feel like it can become somewhat awkward if the same person constantly posts about it (more of an issue on FB than blogs). I agree with you, nobody's life is perfect, but I would rather remember and document the good than dwell on the negative.

LOVE this post! I do love when people are "real" but I don't like when people do too much oversharing (does that make sense? lol). I like document the fun and good stuff more than the crummy stuff though.

I think it's all about balance. People that are all rainbows and sunshines can be annoying but so can people that grumpy all the time haha

I totally agree with you! There's a difference between being 'real' and just being grumpy! I tend to err on the side of trying to be more positive, because I'd rather annoy people with happiness than grumpiness!

I think all those people who post nothing but negative statuses all the time on their FB do it because they want everyone else to be just as unhappy as them. It always bugs me when people think it is not 'normal' for people to be positive and happy about their life! I completely agree with you though, why should we waist our day complaining when we could be embracing all the good things about our life! :)

Stopping by from the Flashback Friday link up, thanks for hosting! Such a great idea for a link up!

This has actually been on my mind a lot lately, I have a post sitting in my drafts that I haven't published because I think it might hurt some people's feelings but I needed to get it out of my chest lol

Awesome post! And I totally agree with you! While I do want to be real, I would never sit around all day doing nothing but complaining because when it's all said and done, I would be miserable.

It seems that a lot of times when people say they're "keeping it real" it is complaining and being negative; not sincere and honest with their words in order to be helpful. Like another reader said, I think it's best to find a balance and share both good and bad but the biggest impact is on how the "realness" is delivered. But I definitely agree it's better to spread happiness and joy!
