Shrove Tuesday

I’ll admit it, I’ve been a terrible Catholic recently. I am embarrassed to even contemplate the length of time it’s been since I’ve been to church. I could use excuses and say, but HB isn’t Catholic and I don’t want to go without him, but honestly, if I go, I’m sure he’ll go. And if not, it’s my deal, I should motivate myself.

Now before you worry that I’m going to start talking religion on here all the time, never fear. I feel like my faith is something pretty personal, so I won’t be spouting on her a lot about it. However, since today is Shrove Tuesday {or Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras} I figured this topic was more than appropriate.
I’ve been trying to decide what to give up for Lent. In the past I’ve done sweets, meat {not just on Fridays but all of Lent and for a girl who lives on chicken and steak it‘s hard!} and shock of all shocks I’ve even given up soda. That one is always the hardest.

This year though, nothing really spoke to me, but then I remembered something my mom told me when I was younger. Lent isn’t just about giving something up {especially for people who pick something super easy} but it’s also about remembering what the Lenten season is all about. Doing something that is a change for the better. When she was little she used to save up all of her extra money during Lent and donate it to the church on Easter. I’ve decided to make more of an effort with my faith. That means, during Lent I will be taking lil Gbear with me to church every Sunday. {I know for some of you this is a given, but like I said, I’ve fallen behind in my faith} I also am going to make an effort to become an active member of my Parish.

Finally, and I’m borrowing this one from the lovely JustAGirl, I am going to give up my petty habit of belittling peoples achievements  {I never tell the people these things, but I do have a habit of voicing my nasty thoughts to HB and J} Too many times I see something on face book and immediately mean thoughts pop in my head. So for Lent, I’m not going to laugh it off and say it’s ok. I’m going to work on thinking more positive thoughts.

But it’s not Lent yet, so Facebook here I come! And because now I'm sure some of you think I'm terrible, quick, look at the cute baby!

He's soooo cute! I know I say that every time you post a picture of him, but I swear it's true. Anyway, I really like your goals for Lent =)

I have been struggling with what to give up too. This is my first Lent as a Catholic so I want to make sure that I don't set myself up to fail. I think I have decided on giving up an hour of t.v. a night, because I watch way too much t.v. and not only that, but it will make it to where I have to do something with that time and so I have decided that is when I will workout. Fingers crossed that it works! My fiancee' is giving up soda this year and I have a feeling it is going to be a long lent, haha!
