BIG news

Big news in our household! I haven't really talked about it much on here, but after the Hubs ETSed, he went back to school to get a second Bachelor's degree {this time in a much more relevant, useful field} Once he decided what he wanted to go back to school for, he realized that he wouldn't mind making the army a career after he finished this second degree and that is how we found ourselves making our way back to active duty. HB is in the ROTC unit at his university.

It's kind of bizarre for me, because when I met my husband, he had already been in the army for a few years - I didn't experience things like Basic. Heck, I didn't even experience a real PCS unless you count the move when he ETSed. Now, I'm getting a taste of a whole new aspect of military life. Yes, I know ROTC is a far cry from the real army, but it is interesting to learn how things work.

After that long winded back story, I'm sure you're wondering, great, but what's the BIG news?!?!?! Well,  last month HB learned that he has been slotted for active duty upon commissioning. {we were pretty sure he would get it}Next came the wait to learn what branch. {apparently the ROTC program likes to dangle news in front of you like a carrot - or maybe chocolate in my case} This is a BIG deal. This is what HB's new career will be. He had said he would have been happy with any of his top 3, but there was always the possibility that he wouldn't get one of them- needs of the army!

I am very happy to say that HB got his FIRST choice!!!! Wooot!! For those of you that have hung in this far, that means that upon graduation, HB will be commissioning into the Signal Corps. I'm excited to see what this new adventure will bring!!!!

*nerd moment: one of the first things I told HB when he let me know- Stan Lee was in the Signal Corps ;-)

Well good for you guys! Best of luck on commissioning and going to your new station. It's weird how life throws things around at you.

how exciting. My husband is considering getting out and going back to school for a 2nd bachelors {also in a much more useful field} and then possibly getting back in. I'm sure the next few years will be quite a roller coaster but it's good to hear of successful similar stories!

congrats to you both!

Congrats! Hubs is a SigO. Some people may say otherwise, but we actually enjoyed Fort Gordon where BOLCII/III is at. We were dating back then and the Army didn't have enough lodging for all the single officers so they stuck him in the Super 8 for three months, but it was still fun. It's a town that happens to have an Army post as opposed to a town developed around an Army post. Your first intro into active duty (again) should be relatively fun! I'm looking forward to going back in October! Good luck on your new adventures!

He should first congratulate himself for not killing any of the other non-prior-service cadets. That was always the hardest to cope with for those who had served prior to the ROTC experience. And congrats on your new life coming up!
