Drama with a Side of Ridiculous

Ok, so I was watching TV early this morning (Lil Gbear didn’t want to sleep) and the choices were pretty limited due to it being the middle of the night, so I decided to hit up some quality brainless TV on onDemand.
Flipping through my choices, I stumbled upon Football Wives. I had seen ads for it on VH1, it’s like a Real Housewives but all of the wives are married to Dallas Cowboy football players (or it turns out, a couple of them are married to ex- players, like Deion Sanders’ wife) It's modeled after a British TV show called Footballer's Wives which was basically a soap opera of the lives of football (soccer) players.
They’re short episodes, including drama like some of the wives getting mad because another had a previous commitment and had to leave Bible study early (may I note, said Bible study supposedly lasted 3 hours). Overall, the show seemed pretty silly, but enjoyable, especially when my brain is mush because it needs sleep desperately. But then I got to the most recent episode. And it pushed my buttons.
Let me begin by saying, I dislike people that say they miss their significant others more, or it’s harder because so and so’s gone longer. Or even to say that someone who has a spouse in a war zone vs. someone who is separated for an extended period of time aren’t equal. I understand there are differences, but I also understand that ultimately you are separated from the person you love. It’s hard.
But these women, they just are simply audacious. You ready to hear what they call themselves when it’s football season . Football Widows.
I’ll let that sink in for a minute.
Widows?! Really?!
I think maybe they need to consider their choice of words a little more carefully. And maybe they need a vocabulary lesson to understand what that word actually means. I understand you miss your husband because his job takes him away from you, but do you get to talk to him every day. Yes.
Can you go visit him ANYTIME you want? Yes.
And then, they began crying because their husbands “risk their lives everyday”. Excuse me?
I understand that football can be a dangerous sport, but really?!
And my final point of contention, the women who were dubbing themselves “football widows” and crying over how risky their husbands profession is then began to complain about the pay. They were complaining because their husbands didn’t make OVER a million dollars a year. All the while saying how difficult it was to raise a family on their husband’s salary and how they really do try to live within their means.
BULLSHIT.
If you really are having such difficulties making it work on a football players salary, maybe you don’t need to be driving Range Rovers and buying giant houses. Oh and having houses in two different states.
So while I love me some trashy TV, I don’t think I’ll be adding Football Wives to my repertoire. No need to perpetuate the ignorance.
