Time Flies with a Toddler

Ok, I don't always gush about my lil Gbear; after all, some of my readers are not that interested in my child *gasp* shocker I know ;-) Trust me, I don't want this blog to be just about Gbear, but he is a big part of my world, so I can't help it now and again.

Today you are officially 23 months old. Yup, that means in one month I will have a two year old on my hands!!! In honor of your 23 month-day, I thought I'd share some things about you.

You Love spaghetti! Sometimes I don't want you to eat it, since you make such a mess, but the fun you have with the noodles and the adorable look on your face when it's smeared with pasta sauce wins me over.

So far, you can point to two body parts when asked: your belly and your penis. This boy has his priorities!

I love our nightly dance parties. You march over to the cabinet where the music is and insist we play it. It's a great way to end the day.

I find it hilarious {and oh so irritating} that you seem to have a phobia of getting your diaper changed. You would rather sit in your own ickiness ALL day than for me to change your diaper. So frustrating, but so funny.

You like to play with Bear Cub. The other day, you and Bear played hide and seek for awhile and you love to try to ride Bear like a pony {what a patient dog}

Every morning you feel the need to dump ALL your blankets and Smokey and Georgey out of your crib, only to insist that we put them all back in before we leave the room.

It's so much fun having swordfights with you with the foam weapons even if sometimes you get a little overzealous.

Your newest amusement is hiding under tables. It seems every table is your fort and sometimes even the chairs too.

You love going for tractor rides with Gma, Gpa or Daddy.

Since Halloween, you've discovered that candy is delicious {although I'm a mean mommy that doesn't give it to you that often} but when you do have it, you are the cutest messy, sticky man.

You are the cutest kareoke singing lil toddler ever, especially when you sing into your Merry-okee. {I like to think it's because you love Christmas as much as your momma}

I could go on and on, but needless to say, you light up my life. I love watching you grow and I can't believe you're going to be two next month! Where does the time go?!

Messy Mass

I have been a terrible Catholic in the past year. Just plain lazy. I kept saying, next week I’ll go to church, but sleeping in with HB or just lounging about the house always seemed so much easier. However, Lent rolled around and I decided it was the perfect motivation I needed.

You see, I get extremely anxious about trying new things. Crowds of unknown people freak me out. So the idea of approaching a new church seemed daunting. Silly, I know, but I’m kind of odd like that. I missed last week because of daylight savings, so this week I really felt the need to go. I’d even driven past the Church a few times over the course of the week, to familiarize myself with it {see, told you, odd}

HB chose to stay home and Lil Gbear and I piled in the car with plenty of time to spare. We arrived at the Church and cute elderly gentleman awaited everyone coming in, greeting them with a smile and a handshake. My anxiety shrank a little as I found a seat at the end of a pew near the back, in preparation for the possibility of a quick exit. Lil Gbear hasn’t been to church in ages so I wasn’t sure how he would react. He really doesn’t like sitting still, so I wanted to be ready. I scanned the Church for a “cry room” but couldn’t find one. However, I felt at peace. I was glad  I had come.

The Mass began and I felt at home, albeit a little awkward with Gbear in tow. However, this comfort began to fade. Gbear found it necessary to make noise EVERY time the congregation was silent. I tried the binky, a bottle, snacks. Nothing worked and he even bit me! At this point I was just hoping to make it to Communion and then make a slightly early exit. Little Gbear had other plans. It seems I should not have attempted to placate him with food, because during one of the pauses in the Eucharistic Prayer, the unthinkable. *Vomit* The embarrassment.  I felt like the eyes of the entire congregation were on me. Of course, Lil Gbear was ok, just overly full. However, I decided that it was time to call it a day.

I left feeling disappointed and a little defeated, but I hope that next week things will go a little more smoothly! I guess Lil Gbear was just making up for all the times I threw up on my mom in church. ;)
