Searching. I feel like for years I have been searching. As a kid I was so sure of what path my life would take. I was going to be a lawyer, just like my dad, but life has a funny way of throwing curveballs that make you re-examine what you want. In my search, a little less than a year ago, I found a gem. I wasn’t expecting it, but this part time job has been one of the best things to happen to me.
I never would have dreamed of working in a library. I adore books, but never really spent a lot of time in libraries growing up. In and out. Pick up the books and be on my way, but now I have discovered a whole new world of opportunity for kids and grown ups alike. I have discovered a love for the library!
I love talking to the old man who doesn’t have anyone else to talk to and so he spends the day walking to the library to enjoy some companionship. I love helping the young professional, who is down on her luck, fax her resumes to a long list of job openings. I love singing and dancing to silly songs with my group of story time munchkins. I love having co-workers who have become great friends.
All this love makes me wonder if maybe life threw these curveballs to show me that I can be happy in a path I didn’t plan. I know for sure that the first thing I will be doing when we move is get myself a library card!!!
