How Do You Measure a Year

The lovely Ms Erika over at Chambanachik tagged me to share a little retrospective of my 2013 and I'm a little slow and am finally getting around to it. I'm sure most people are SO sick of the looking back posts and the looking forward new year posts, but I'm blogging this for me, to help me remember.

What were your highlights of 2013?

- Visited my bestie in Boston for St Patrick’s Day
-Helping plan our library’s annual Dr Seuss’ Birthday Party. I had so much fun making this event something really special for the kids {and doing it on a super tiny budget too!}

 -Hubs was recognized for an award among candidates from the entire state
-Ran the Color Run for the second year in a row
-Hubs graduated with his second bachelors degree {Summa Cum Laude}{can you tell I’m proud?}
- Enjoyed some amazing quality time with the inlaws exploring places like Frankenmuth, the outlet malls, and small town fairs in the summer to name a few
- Traveled to Chicago for a quick visit with a college friend and we ran the Electric Run
- Had an amazing adventure visiting hubs in Georgia and seeing the sites in Atlanta and Augusta
- Moved back to the Pacific Northwest and bought a house!!!! {holy cannoli does this mean I’m an adult now?}

Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I can’t even remember if I made a resolution last year - so clearly that doesn’t bode well for keeping it if I did.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
So many blog friends… I think it was the year of the baby and it has sent my baby fever into overdrive.

Did anyone close to you die?
Unfortunately yes.. My amazing dance teacher {who truly helped shape who I am and the course my life has taken} and my wonderful father in law. His loss has really shaken me to the core and will probably be shaping my 2014 in more ways than I realize

What countries did you visit?
Just the US of A {wanderlust oh the wanderlust}

What would you like to have in 2014 that you didn't have in 2013?
Another baby. Gasp. I said it.  {G isn’t really a baby anymore, but he will ALWAYS be my baby}

What dates from 2013 will be etched upon your memory, and why?
April 11th: Ms Christine, my Irish Dance teacher, passed away
April 27th: HB was commissioned
November 15th : We closed on our first house!
December 9th: the absolute worst day of the year, the day my FIL passed away

{I hate that so many of these dates are sad, but I guess that is life… have to take the good with the bad}

What was your biggest achievement of this year?
I can’t really name one? I guess I would say that I successfully built up the library story time program and planned some great events for our patrons {I even got a raise right before I had to leave- ain’t that always the way it goes}

What was your biggest failure?
I could always work to be a better wife, mother, and all around person.

What's the best thing you ate?
Lobster Bisque… my coworker made the most amazing lobster bisque {six bowls later I began to look like I was lobster bisque}

What's the best thing you bought?
When I first thought of this question, I was thinking this beauty of a purse
Emma Fox handbag

But then I remembered, duh, we’re homeowners now. So needless to say, my happy yellow house is a winner!

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Buying a house {I think I’m sounding like a broken record} It was so fun to live in my own episode of House Hunters.

HB finishing his course in Georgia. It was *only* 4.5 months, but it always stinks to be separated and the sweet feeling of joy when you’re reunited is amazing.

And one of the greatest moments of my year, seeing Giant Pandas at the Atlanta Zoo {I would have watched them all day if HB had let me… awkward!}

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Watching pandas? But seriously, maybe blogging. I was pretty on again off again with the whole blogging business.

Compared to this time last year, are you: a) richer or poorer? b) happier or sadder? c) thinner or fatter?
a)about the same? But I like what Erika said, richer where it counts.
b) ask me this question again later this year…
c) I most definitely have been adding some cushion to keep me warm this winter

Did you fall in love in 2013?
Every answer I try to come up with for this question sounds cheesier than the next.

What was your favorite TV program?
Revenge is definitely at the top of my watch list this year

How did you spend Christmas?
With HB’s family in Michigan

What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
My mother and father in law took me out for dinner and drinks {HB was away in Georgia} and I celebrated my 6th anniversary of my 21st birthday ;-)

How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2013?
Tiny attention span eclectic glitter chic {I just added the chic on there to make it sound fancy}

What kept you sane?
My family, friends, and Twitter. {Tweeps you are the best therapists out there!}

Tell me a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
I touched on this in my last post, but truly cherish every moment with your loved ones because tomorrow is never promised. Carpe Diem!

I'm not tagging anyone since I'm so behind on doing this, but if you want to take a trip down 2013 memory lane feel free!!!
